Born in Hollywood,
Florida, Matthew spent his early years playing in orange groves and
listening to The Miami Sound Machine. His first award came when he
was named "Kindergarten Prince" for his mild temperament,
curly locks, and for not eating paste. Matthew believes this his highest
honor to date. His interest in the moving image was fostered early
on by his father, who supported his son's curiosity by strapping a
microwave-sized VCR on his back as he videotaped the brown, historic
markers that dot America's roadways. Following his family's move to
Georgia, Matthew happily adjusted to the more relaxed southern lifestyle
of drinking sweet tea and hollering for someone (or something) to
play "Free Bird." His interest in visual media continued
into college and, finally, to graduate school. Currently, Matthew
works in New England as a freelance production professional in film
and video and has a deep-seated distrust of historic, roadside markers.
